E-KARTING NEWS Race Report:

S4
Two-time heat race winner Chris Jennings (Birel) would lead the way in the S4 main event as he was able to grab the holeshot from the pole position. Craig Sender (Intrepid) ran second with Mike Jones (CRG), Phil Conte (Trackmagic) and Cole Powelson (Arrow) making up the top-five before the halfway mark. Jones was eventually able to work by Sender for second with Conte putting on the pressure next. Up front, Jennings was stretching out his lead lap by lap and he would not be challenged in taking his first SuperNats win by 3.568 seconds. Jones was second while Conte was able to get by Sender late in the race for third. A great story centered on the fifth place driver as Steve Perdue (Intrepid) ended his weekend of catch-up on the podium. After qualifying 40th following a DQ, Perdue scored three top-20s in the heat races and started 16th in the main. Despite a gearbox issue, Perdue powered forwarded and grabbed the fifth position during the final laps, completing a spectacular weekend that certainly added to the
excitement of the race.

S1
Opening lap contact shuffled the S1 field as they made the first circuit around the course. Up front, Jose Zanella (Tony Kart) continued on his path to SuperNats win as he took the point from the pole position. Behind him, Daniel Bray (GP), Cody Hodgson (Tony Kart), Derek Crockett (Wild Kart) and Zach Beard (Birel) made up the early top-five. However, Beard would retire on lap seven with a flat tire. Zanella would pull out to a sizable lead as it was a three-way battle for second with Bray, Hodgson, and now Jacob Neal (CRG) fighting for the position. Neal was certainly on the move. As the race unfolded, Bray held second with Neal running third. The duo made lots of contact lap after lap, and this finally allowed Hodgson to slide in to the second spot with about five laps to go. Hodgson's run would come two laps short as a seized engine put him on the sidelines, ending his chance at the podium. Zanella would cruise to a 10-second victory with Bray winning the battle for second over Neal. Andrew Zimmer (Intrepid) came up to battle Crockett for fifth until their fight became the fight for fourth with the Hodgson retirement, with Zimmer coming out on top of the dice.

The already long list of successful results in 2008 – both at an international level and in many countries all over the world – was further enriched by Intrepid’s excellent performance. Very well represented on the other side of the Atlantic thanks to the dynamism of local importers and distributors, the Italian brand dominated the competition held in the parking area of Rio Hotel in Las Vegas, which hosted one of the most important kart events of the season in America.
“After the very promising tests we performed on different Italian circuits, now the new chassis (soon to be homologated) has also proved to be very competitive”, said a delighted Jérémy Iglesias. “I am very happy about our brand new braking system. It is both very powerful and easy to control, with excellent pedal feeling. I think that in 2009 Intrepid users will simply love it.”
In the Super Pro (which is equivalent to the KZ1), Jérémy fought hard in the leading pack, exactly like a very fast Canadian driver, Jordy Vorrath. Vorrath also won a heat, then climbed on the second step of the podium in the final. “It was a very exciting race”, said the best driver from North America in this legendary place of Las Vegas. “I was very happy about the performance of my Intrepid-TM kart, because I was able to remain less than 1 tenth of a second away from champions like Thonon, who has just conquered the European Championship and the World Cup”. As for Iglesias, he found Vorrath on the podium again. “Jordy was determined to make sparks fly in front of his large American public in Las Vegas. When I saw that he was just behind me and trying to pass, I decided not to oppose too much resistance, I did not want to compromise a good result for Intrepid. Then he passed me and Carlton took advantage of the situation. I knew that the first five would be on the podium in Las Vegas, so I decided to stick to my 4th place. For me, the fundamental thing was to make sure that the work we had done on the new 2009 chassis had been fruitful”.
Young Norman Nato also showed an excellent performance at the wheel of his Intrepid-TM: he climbed from 23rd to 7th rank with the second best time in race, just 6-thousands of a sec. away from the best! This means that there were three Intrepid drivers in the top seven. As for the other categories, several Intrepid drivers competed brilliantly, for example Brett Felkins and Bryce Cornet (2nd and 5th respectively in TaG B-main), Joey Wimsett (5th in TaG), Andrew Zimmer (4th in S1), Craig Sender and Steve Perdue (4th and 5th in S4) and Jack French (pole position in S5). A good overall
result in the US…
Comments by Mirko Sguerzoni, in charge of Intrepid
“My team and I, as well as all those who work at the factory and who contributed to developing our 2009 range, were very pleased to see two Intrepid drivers on the podium. In Las Vegas we used our brand new chassis and all Intrepid drivers were very happy about it. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Jordy Vorrath most warmly: he was second and was the best North American driver in the Super Pro”.
